Dandelions

Life would be a lot more beautiful if we all picked dandelions.

I was thinking this today as I was outside with the girls.  Goosie kept picking handfuls of dandelions and bringing them to me saying “These sunflowers are for you, Mama.”

I think all kids pick dandelions and all kids present them to their moms with great bravado.  They don’t get that we see them as weeds.  Why would they?  They are pretty.  They are numerous.  And they look like flowers.  “Look, ” Magoo said, “Touch it.  It’s so soft.”

But we see them and we think of the work it takes to rid our lawn of them.  We see how they break up the landscape of a perfectly manicured yard.  To us they are a nuisance.

Adults will always see the world differently than children do.  We have different mindsets and values.  We can think long term and can predict consequences.  It’s all very normal and rational and appropriate.

I just think life would hold a lot more wonder if were able to see the beauty in a weed.
